MARCH 2020 HOUSEWARES SPECIAL REPORT
IHA Addresses Concerns, Questions
By Andrea Lillo
Within a day of canceling of The Inspired Home Show, the International Housewares
Association began to develop a strategy about how to deal with the repercussions,
though many aspects will take a while to be determined.
The show, slated for Mar. 14-17, was canceled on Mar. 2 due to the rising concerns
of the spread of the coronavirus.
Of the exhibitors it has talked to, “the vast majority is in support of the decision,” Leana
Salamah, vice president, marketing, IHA, told HFN. “As you can imagine there are
a lot of questions about how we move forward from here. We are working with all

Show Cancellation Has
Exhibitors Weighing Next
Moves
By Joanne Friedrick
The cancellation of The Inspired Home Show in Chicago over concerns about the
coronavirus has exhibitors considering their next moves related to interfacing with the
show’s organizers, recouping some of their investment and reaching retailers they
would have otherwise done business with at the four-day event.
While many vendors expressed feelings of shock and dismay over the decision, they
also were generally supportive of the move by the International Housewares Association
(IHA).
“We have a great deal of respect and admiration for the IHA team for making a
good, honest, and no doubt painful decision,” said Janis Johnson, president of GC
Buying Group.
“As a former board member, I have complete confidence that the IHA evaluated the
situation from all angles and made the best decision for the industry,” said Evan Dash,
founder and CEO of StoreBound. “They are great communicators and I expect we’ll
receive all the necessary information over the next several days.”
Current board member Steve Greenspon, CEO of Honey-Can-Do, said, “The board
has been in constant communication over the past several days with each other given
the situation, and since (March 2’s) decision we are in communication with show
